Artist based in London

Oliver Dorrell recently travelled through the North Caucasus in Southern Russian and produced a series of paintings that document this mountainous region. Concentrating on  Dagestan and Chechnya, these works intertwine the area's complex historical, religious and socio-political tensions with references to Russian literature, art history, local culture and his own experiences in these places; their mystical, quasi-surrealist style is formed from thoroughly researched subject matters that give an engaging insight into this fascinating part of Russia.
